According to lore he was apprenticed to a carpenter at an early age but ran away. He enlisted in the Georgia Volunteers on 5 Oct 1837 for 7 months. He married Elizabeth Anne Hitchcock around 1843. He applied for bounty land 16 Jan 1851 in Tuscaloosa County, AL. He lived there until around 1854 when he moved west with the Hitchcocks. They eventually moved to Chickasaw County, MS and built a cabin near the Natchez Trace."

You have the wrong parents for James Thomas Carter. The parents you have attached are descendants of Capt. Thomas Carter of Bardford, VA. Thomas Carter of Bardford's descendants are in a different haplogroup from Byron's Y DNA test. Your immigrant ancestor should be Carter-7443 based on Byrons Y DNA matches.
