Moses Carter was born on 25 Apr 1812^[1] in Blue Hill, Hancock, Massachusetts, United States, son of James Carter II (1764 - 1834) and Mercy (Cane) Carter (1773 - 1863).

Moses (22) married Olive Jordan Dow (22) , daughter of Stephen Dow and Sarah Sellers, on 16 Feb 1835^[2] in Blue Hill.
