Sergeant Adams, of the A.I.F., visited Kyogle on Thursday, and in the afternoon held an "empty saddle parade" in the show ring. Prior to appealing for volunteers to mount the horses which a number of re-turned soldiers were leading, a stirring address was given by Mr. R. E. Alcorn, at the conclusion of which Sergeant Adams delivered a short speech pointing out the urgency of reinforcements. He had not spoken a minute before the first recruit hopped out from amongst the dense crowd of onlookers surrounding the ring, and he was quickly followed by seven others, thus filling all the empty saddles available. The new recruits, a number of whom were yet in "shorts" when war broke out, were lustily cheered as they cantered round the ring with their escort. The names of the volunteers are:— Mort Williams, William Moy, Harry Wilson, S. D. Sweeney. J. Baker, B. Kennon, A. T. Carter, and O. Green.
