Biography

Joseph was born before 1800.

While living in Amherst County, Virginia on April 24, 1841, Joseph's wife Phoebe wrote a letter to her sister, Elizabeth Rucker who had moved to Kentucky that included the " number of [Phebe's] children and other particulars, ..... we will state that we have nine children their names are as follows commencing at the eldest: Robert Abram Henry, Susan Mary, Amanda, Elizabeth Ann, Sarah Agnes and Malinda Frances twins, William Bourne, Leanna Jane and Joseph Creed the youngest nearly five years old."

He passed away after 1841.

It appears as this Joseph R. Carter may be comingled in some on-line databases with Joseph Carter (1786-1846) See e.g. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/52520848/person/60000010007 The 1841 letter, however, indicates an address in Virginia and not in Indiana.
