Biography

Josiah Carter was born on Jan. 26, 1726 in Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts, and baptise on the 29th. His parents were Samuel Carter and Dorothy Wilder. [1]

In 1738, his mother Dorothy was appointed guardian of the estate Josiah, aged 12 years, inherited from his father.[2]

He married Tabitha Howe on May 25, 1745. [1] [3]

He served in Capt. John Carter's mounted company, detached from Col. Oliver Wilder's Regt., that marched to Springfield, Mass., on alarm at Fort William Henry, 1757.

His farm was the northerly of the two farms on Carter Hill, owned by Samuel's descendants. The beautiful slope of which makes the background of the view of Leominster on the west, with South Monoosnock just above it.

Tabitha died in Leominster, 1810. [4]

He died on February 14, 1812 in Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts. [4] [9]
