Jean Baptiste Cartier was born at Sorel on June 1, 1858 and he was baptized there the same day. [1] He was the second of 11 children the second of four sons of Pierre Celestin Cartier and Catherine Labossiere.

Jean Baptiste Cartier passed away at Sorel on July 29, 1903 and he was buried there three days later. [6] [7] He was 45 years old and it appears that he never married as his burial only lists his parents.
