Sarah (Cartlidge) Woods was born in Cheshire, England.

Sarah was born in Astbury, Cheshire, England, in 1854.[1] Her birth was registered in the second quarter in Congleton. She was the daughter of John Edward Cartlidge and Louisa Taylor. She was baptized on August 1, 1854, [2] in Astbury at St Mary. She was enumerated in the 1871 census [3] as one of eight children residing in Astbury with her parents. She stated she was sixteen and a "Silk Worker".

Sarah married George Woods in 1871.[4] The ceremony took place on June 19th, in Congleton, at St Peter.[5] She had just turned seventeen. The couple would have at least seven children between 1875 and 1890, all born in Staffordshire. Sarah and george were enumerated in the 1881 census [6] residing in Wolstanton, Staffordshire, with three children, ages five, four, and two. In 1891, [7] the family was residing on Fourth street, Wolstanton, with seven children ages fifteen to under one year old. The family was living in Chell, Staffordshire (Registration District Wolstanton) in 1901.[8] Five children, ages twenty four to ten still at residence. The family remained in Chell through at least 1911. [9] In that census, son James, daughter in law Caroline, and grandson James, also at residence as well as youngest son Frederick.

No definitive record for Sarah's death found.
