Biography

Susanna (Cartlidge) Austin was born in Cheshire, England.

Susanna was born in Congleton, Cheshire, England, in 1809. She was the daughter of John Cartlidge and Mary Henshall. She was baptized on October 9, 1809, in Astbury, Cheshire, at St Mary.^[1] She married Thomas Austin at St Mary on January 25, 1830.^[2] The couple would have five children between 1835 and 1849.

Susanna and Thomas were enumerated in the 1841 census ^[3] residing on Waggs Lane, Astbury (Registration District Congleton), with their two oldest children, Thomas, age four, and Sarah, three. (Note...there were two other children at residence, Ann Austin, eleven, and Mary Austin, nine. No relationship to Thomas noted. Sisters?). They were still living on Waggs Road in 1851.^[4] There were five children at residence ages fifteen to two. In 1881, ^[5] Susanna was living with Thomas and son John at Hill Fields, Congleton.

Susannah passed away in 1886.^[6] Her death was registered in the first quarter in Macclesfield, Cheshire. She was seventy seven.
