Nicholas is buried near the church wall of St Anne's Parish Church - the inscription reads "IN AFFECTIONATE REMEMBERANCE OF NICHOLAS CARTMELL OF LEACH LANE WHO DIED JUlY 21st 1880 in the 84th YEAR OF HIS AGE"

His wife Grace was buried in the same grave 4 years later.

Probate of Nicholas of Lytham, farmer.

Executors: Richard Rawcliffe of Little Marton and sons, John of Reeve, Nr. Blackpool, vaults manager and George of Leach Lane, Farmer. Estate £5,000. The estate was left to Grace with the proviso that on her death his son, George be given the option of purchase.
