Biography
I don't know if Mary's last name at birth was McCarty, but her marriage certificate shows her as "Carty". But 2 of her grand-daughters thought "McCarty" was her maiden name. Mary married Edward Burke who was also born in Ireland. They were married on Feb. 18, 1855 in Pittsfield, MA. Together they had at least 1 child who who was named Edward Burke after Mary's husband. The child "Edward Burke" was born in Boston, MA. July 24th, 1864. I would love to find out more about this couple, Mary Carty & Edward Burke, both born in Ireland probably 1837 & 1833 respectively. On the marriage certificate, Mary's father is listed as Michael Carty. Edward's father is listed as John Burke.
