Brent Carver was a Canadian actor who was best known internationally for his performances on Broadway in Parade as Leo Frank and in Kiss of the Spider Woman as Molina, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical in 1993. In 2014, he received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.
Born in 1951 in Cranbrook, British Columbia, he was one of the seven children of Kenneth Elmer Carver and Lois Wills.
He began his acting career in 1972 and worked throughout Canada as well as in New York and London. His long association with the Stratford Festival began in 1980 with his debut performance in Long Day’s Journey Into Night. A versatile actor, he gave critically acclaimed performances in musical theatre, cabaret and film. He was awarded four Dora Awards for his stage performances and three Gemini Awards for his television work.[1]
He died in his hometown in 2020.[1]
