Biography

Baptism and early life

Bennet is the third child and eldest son of Thomas Carveth and Amy Retallack. He was baptised on 13 February 1727/28 at Ladock in Cornwall,[1] and was named after his maternal grandfather, Bennett Retallack.

He probably moved to other places in Cornwall with his family in the period 1728 to 1737, returning to Ladock about 1738. His mother died in 1739 and his father probably in 1743.

Marriage

He married Dorcas Betteson on 23 June 1754 at Ladock, after Banns. They were both residents of the Parish of Ladock, and witnesses were Colan Betteson and John Courtenay.[2];[3]

Children

They had the following children;

  1. Amy Carveth, baptised 26 August 1759 at Ladock;[4]
  2. Bennet Carveth, baptised 18 October 1763 at Ladock;[5]
  3. Dorcas Carveth, baptised 14 July 1766 Ladock;[6]
  4. Sarah Carveth, baptised 14 July 1766 Ladock;[7]

Bennett passed away in 1801.[8]
