Giovanni Cascio is a contadino (peasant) born 27 January 1820 in Corleone, the son of Girolamo Cascio, agricola (farmer), and his wife Biagia Guzzetta. Giovanni is baptized the day of his birth. His godparents are Mariano and Carmela Scalisi, a married couple.
First Marriage, to Salvatrice di Giglia
Giovanni marries twice, first to Salvatrice di Giglia, on 22 July 1845. They have one known child, Biagia (1846).
Biagia is born and baptized 14 June 1846, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Martino Cardella and Francesca Mistritta, a married couple.
Giovanni and Salvatrice stand as godparents to Gratia Saporito, daughter of Vincentio Saporito and Maria Cammarata, on 27 September 1854.
Giovanni's father, Girolamo, dies at age 72 (b. 1784) on 16 July 1856.
Biagia marries Salvatore Zimbardo on 14 September 1862.
Salvatrice dies in her home on via Santo Nicolo', Corleone, on 27 January 1869, at age 46. It is unknown whether they have children together.
Second Marriage, to Rosa Patella
About two months later, Giovanni marries Rosa Patella, a virgin, on 5 April 1869. The Church record of his marriage calls Giovanni's mother Maria.
Giovanni's mother, Biagia, dies at age 80 (b. 1790) on 20 October 1870.
Giovanni and Rosa have at least four children together: three sons named Girolamo (1870, 1872, and 1877) and Calogero (1873).
Their first son named Girolamo, named after Giovanni's father, is born 13 February 1870 and baptized Hieronymum the next day. His godparents are Pietro Lipari and Maria Giordano, a married couple. He dies on 17 July 1870 at five months of age.
The second Girolamo is born 20 January 1872 and baptized Hieronymum the next day. His godparents are Salvatore and Antonina Sciortino, who are not a married couple.
Calogero is born 24 August 1873 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Giovanni Palazzo and Giuseppa lo Bue, a married couple.
The third Girolamo is born 18 April 1877 and baptized Hieronymum the next day. His godparents are Sebastiano d'Anna and Calogera di Fulco, a married couple.
Giovanni dies 6 January 1895 at 31 via Calvario in Corleone, age 75. Rosa survives him.
Calogero marries Mattea Ruffino on 22 October 1899.
Girolamo dies at age 25 (b. 1877) on 22 June 1902. He is unmarried.[1]
