Biography

Maria Antonia Cascio is born and baptized on 27 May 1823. She is the daughter of Maestro Francesco Cascio and Maria Concetta Inserra. Her godparents are Don Salvatore and Donna Biagia Destro, brother and sister. Maria Antonia may be named in honor of her paternal grandmother.

Maria Antonia's mother, Concetta, dies by 1834, when her father, Francesco, remarries, to Giuseppa di Mattia.

In 1834, ’’Maestro’’ Francesco lo Cascio, 40 (b. 1794), his new wife Giuseppa, 22 (b. 1812), and children from his first marriage Maria Antonia, 11 (b. 1823), [Cascio-596|Antonino]], 17 (b. 1818), [Lo_Cascio-36|Vita]], (whose age is not given, is 7, b. 1827), and Cascio-97|Giuseppe]], 4 (b. 1830), live on the strada di Bruno, between the Portico di Migrine and the Pianitto, somewhere in the SW quarter, near San Agostino. His neighbors are all either maestri or styled don(na).

Maria Antonia marries Maestro Giovanni Nuccio on 15 November 1853. Her father is still living.

Maria Antonia and Giovanni have at least four children together: Giuseppa (1854), Maria (1857), Giuseppe (1860), and Maria Carmela (1862). They also stand as godparents, in 1856.

Giuseppa dies at two days of age. At death, she is called their son, a common error.

Maria dies on 15 October 1857 at twenty days of age.

The same error is made in reporting the death of Giuseppe, at three weeks of age. His death record calls him Giuseppa, infant daughter.

Maria Antonia's father, Maestro Francesco, dies at age 67 (b. 1795) on 18 July 1862. He is survived by his second wife, Giuseppa.

Maria Carmela dies in 1868, at five years of age.

Maria Antonia dies at age 49 on 23 November 1872. Her husband, Giovanni, survives her.
