Biography

Girolamo lo Cascio is born and baptized on 6 October 1839. He is the son of Leoluca Cascio and Leoluchina Lisotta, and is named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional for the first born son. His godparents are Michaelangelo and Gaetana Marino, a married couple.

Girolamo is a farmer (villico). He marries Maria Felicia Pecorino on 2 September 1863. They have at least twelve children together: two daughters named Leoluchina (1864 and 1867), two sons named Leoluca (1865 and 1870), Rosa (1872), Maria Carmela (1875), Vito (1877), twins Angelo and Giovanni (1879), Carmela (1881), Giovanna (1884), and Biagia (1887). All of their children are known from Church records. The second Leoluchina is also known from her civil marriage records.

Girolamo (Hieronymo in church records) and Maria Felicia (sometimes just Maria in church records) have two daughters named Leoluchina. The first is born and baptized 14 June 1864, and dies on 17 August at two months of age.

See the Cascio Family Space for a short discussion on naming conventions.

They also have two sons named Leoluca. Girolamo and Maria's first son named Leoluca is born on 25 August 1865 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Biagio Provenzano and Lucia Lisotta, brother and sister. Leoluca dies three days later.

The second Leoluchina is born 8 May 1867 in her parents' home in via San Giovan Battista, Corleone. Girolamo, age 27 (b. 1840), villico, reports her birth. This daughter survives to marry, twice, in 1886.

The second Leoluca is born 30 January 1870 and baptized the following day as Leonalucam. His godfather is Giuseppe Cardella.

Rosa is born and baptized Rosam on 15 November 1872. Her godparents are Stefano Rizzotto and Antonia Governali, a married couple.

Maria Carmela is born and baptized on 27 May 1875. Her godparents are Carmelus Moscato and Carmela Badami, a married couple. She dies on 14 March 1876 at nine months of age.

Vito is born 10 January 1877 and baptized Vitum the next day. His godparents are Giuseppe Lisotta and Maria Penzato, a married couple.

Girolamo and Maria Felicia baptize their twin sons, Angelum (Angelo) and Joanne (Giovanni) in San Martino parish 19 November 1879, the day they are born. Angelo's godfather is Angelus Badami, unmarried. Giovanni's godparents are Vincentius Labuzzo and Carmela Jolano, a married couple.

Angelo dies at six months of age on 15 or 16 June 1880. (The Church and civil records of his death give two dates.) Giovanni, his twin, dies on 25 June.

Carmela is born 9 August 1881 and baptized the next day. Her godparents are Biagio Gennaro and Bernarda lo Bue.

Girolamo and Maria Felicia's daughter, Giovanna, is born 2 September 1884, at 61 via Corti lo Badami, Corleone. Girolamo is 45 and identified as a contadino (peasant) on her civic birth record.

In 1886, Leoluchina marries twice: on 9 March 1886, at age 18, she marries Cipriano Maniscalco, of unknown parents. Girolamo's age is given on the marriage record as 45, the same as in 1884 at the birth of Giovanna. On 27 October 1886, Leoluchina marries again, at age 19, to Giuseppe Di Miceli. In her second marriage, Leoluchina is still called nubile, meaning she has not previously been married, so something happened to prevent her from celebrating her marriage to Cipriano.

The following year, Girolamo and Maria Felicia have another daughter, Biagia, born and baptized Blasia on 3 May 1887. Her godmother is the unmarried Francisca Paula Spadafora. Biagia dies at seven months of age on 1 December 1887.

Rosa marries Giuseppe Cutrone on 24 October 1891.

Carmela marries Michaele di Giglia on 13 April 1902.

Giovanna marries Biagio Governali on 16 September 1906.[1]

Vito marries Lucia Canzoneri on 24 October 1907. His parents are both still living.[2]
