Biography

Possibly, place of death was Lawrence County, Mississippi. There is good evidence that Thomas was still living in 1830 in Lawrence County, Mississippi. He was in Mississippi by 1817 and was living not far west of Friendship Baptist Church when he died, probably sometime before 1840. He had two wives at the same time-- Elizabeth Strapp, legally, and Lucy Rebecca Tannahill, common law wife.

Research Notes

1850 Census: Copiah, Mississippi

"Tootie" is the nickname given him by his naughty neighbors because he had two wives and he took care of both wives and their children. It was hard on all their children to be teased like this, so hard that three daughters by Rebecca Tanneyhill each got married, not by their real name, Case, but by their own mother's name, Tanneyhill. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
