Biography

John Case V was born in Connecticut.

John, the eldest son and child of twelve children of John Case IV and Abigail Humphrey was born on 19 February 1718 at Simsbury, Connecticut.[1][2][3] John was a shoe maker in Simsbury, and his first employee was his cousin Dudley Case.[4] John also kept bees, at one point charging his brother Noah Case one pound for "half a swarm."[4] He became one of the largest landowners in Simsbury in the mid-1700s.[4]

John married Sarah Barber (alias Barbor), the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Holcombe) Barber on 7 November 1745 at Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut.[5]He and Sarah had eleven children born at Simsbury:

Captain John Case served in the French and Indian War with the First Regiment lead by Col. Phineas Lyman, Sixth Company led by Capt. Samuel Gaylord in 1758 at Connecticut.[17]

The John Case House at Simsbury, Hartford Connecticut was the location where prisoners, taken after the defeat of Burgoyne in the Revolution, were quartered, while enroute to Boston.[18]

Captain John Case died on 24 May 1776 in his 59th year at Simsbury.[19]He is buried near his wife in the Simsbury Cemetery at Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut.[20]John's will was entered into probate in 1776 at Hartford, Connecticut.[21]

John kept fairly detailed account books, including for the years 1739 to the 1760s.[22] From these books, greater detail into the relationship between John and other Simsbury residents is evident, including his close relationship with Andrew Robe (John's son Asa and Andrew's daughter Sarah married) and the family of Jonathan Pinney.[22]

Case-3482 and Case-654 appear to represent the same person because: It appears that there are two profiles for John Case who are married to Sarah Barber. Sources indicate she was only married to one john Case. From 1745 until his death in 1776.
