Biography

The Franklin County, Ohio record of Orlando Case's death 5 Aug 1872 says he was aged 79y3m 8d, placing his birth about 28 Apr 1793, and that he was born in Hartford, Connecticut.[1] That probably refers to Hartford County, Connecticut, rather than the city, however no birth or baptism record for Orlando has been located.

He is said to be the son of Isaac Case and Jane Adams[2] His life certainly intersects with that of Isaac and Jane in Franklin County, however no record explicitly stating the relationship has been located. Isaac Case came from Simsbury, Connecticut to Franklin County with the Scioto Company that founded Worthington, Ohio about 1804.[3]

"Orland" Case and "Sally" Crippen were married 14 Dec 1815 in Franklin County, Ohio.[4] They had at least 6 children[2][5]:

  • Alvin Orlando, 1816-1898
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Charles Hector, 1824-1888
  • Elizabeth Malona, b. abt 1826, married Milo B. Hinds
  • Adelia, b. abt 1830, married Orrin Israel Case
  • Amaretta P., 1834-1856

Orlando died of lung fever 5 Aug 1872 in Perry Township, Franklin, Ohio.[1] His burial place is unknown.

Research Notes

  • Orlando is not in the Worthington Memories cemetery index.
  • A guardian was appointed for Orlando Case 22 Apr 1867. The court records leading up to this appointment might be another place Orlando's heirs are named, if they survive.
  • The Franklin County, Ohio deeds index has 4 entries for Orlando that appear to be in books destroyed by fire in 1879: 1811 Orlando from Isaac Case F:177; 1815 Orlando from Isaac Case G:134; 1831 from Orlando 11:44; 1834 to Orlando 11:570.
  • The are 2 Orlando Cases from Ohio who served in 1812, at least one of whom received bounty land. The bounty land application may have additional information about Orlando's family.
