History of Mary Frances Rutelia Casey

Mary Frances Rutelia Casey was born 10 Apr 1850 in the Rawhide Community, Lauderdale County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Jacob Casey and Sarah Frances Lucas.

Mary Frances Rutelia Casey was the granddaughter of Brigadier General Levi Garrett Casey, a Revolutionary Soldier and Elizabeth Duckett Casey, designated a heroine of the Revolutionary War. Her grandfather served a number of terms in Congress and had been reelected to the next Congress but his death prevented any further service. He was a member of the House of Representatives and a Senator. He served with many notable names recognized even today. His funeral procession was one of the earliest, if not the first, that was a state funeral. From the description of it, it was a magnificent display of respect for the fallen statesman.[2]

Mary Frances Rutelia Casey's maternal grandparents were Dr Willis Lucas and Sarah "Sallie" Linam. The Lucas grandfather, Jeremiah Lucas, also served in the Revolutionary War. Her grandmother, Sarah "Sallie" Linam Lucas died in Lauderdale County and is buried there. her grandfather Dr Willis Lucas was in the household of Jacob Duckett Casey and Sarah Frances Lucas Casey in 1850. He went into Indian Territory somewhere Sunflower County at his daughter's death.

Mary Frances Rutelia Casey and Samuel P Florence had three children. There was an Obie O Florence listed with Eula A Florence as a sibling on the 1880 census record; that was Oscar O Florence. The name Obie O Florence was on no other record.

Mary Frances Rutelia Casey Florence was listed on a number of census records. As an infant she was listed in her parents household in the Rawhide Community in Lauderdale County, Alabama where she was born.[3] She may have been the Mollie Florence listed on the 1870 and 1880 Barbour County, Alabama census records with her husband Samuel P Florence and in his parent's household. Many researchers accept that has the one listed.

On the 1900 census record she was in Boone, Logan County, Arkansas as the wife of Samuel P Florence. [4]Again on the 1910 census record she was in the household with her husband at Sugar Creek, Logan County, Arkansas.[5] Her husband, Samuel P Florence died 22 February 1911 in Booneville, Logan County, Arkansas.

On the 1920 census she was listed as mother-in-law and was a widow in Boone, Logan County, Arkansas.[6] On the 1930 census record for Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas, she is listed as mother and a widow in the household of her daughter, Eula Roberts and her family.[7]

Mary Frances Rutelia Casey Florence passed away 18 Feb 1931 at Booneville, Logan County, Arkansas. She and her husband Samuel P Florence share the same monument at their graveside.
