Theodore Henry was born in 1871. He was the son of Maurice Casey and Margaret Thorburn. [1]
Theodore Henry Casey (Service number South African 55 ) served in the South African (Boer) War. He was involved in the Relief of Kimberley, and the Paardeberg, Driefontein and Johannesburg campaigns. He was a Sergeant in the Auckland Mounted Rifles A mill hand in civilian life, he gave his next of kin as Mr Victor Casey, of Great North Road, Arch Hill, Auckland. He embarked aboard the vessel Waiwera as a Private in the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, 1st Contingent, 1 Company 1st Contingent Casey joined the Imperial Military Railways in Pretoria. He departed South Africa aboard the S.S. 'Victoria' from Cape town in February 1901. (Stowers, p.159) In New Zealand Casey rejoined the Auckland Mounted Rifles. [2]
He married Frances Catherine Bush in 1902 [3] He passed away in 1918 age 47 [4] dying during the influenza epidemic just days after his father, and just days before his mother. He is buried at the Waikaraka Cemetery, at 1 Alfred Street, Onehunga, Auckland, (Row 45)
