Charles Carroll[1] Casey was born to Samuel K. and Julia E. (McCreery) Casey in Benton, Franklin County, Illinois, supposedly on 30 October 1849.[1]
His mother died in 1852.
Charles appears in the 1850-1870 federal census records in his father's household,[2][3][4] after which no record of him has been found, though Adam Clark Johnson (1832-1899)[5] recalled that Charles "had taken a course in a commercial college, and was at the same place [as his sister, Mahala (Casey) Munger, that is, in Hannibal, Missouri]."[6]
