Biography
Patrick Casey was born in Ireland.
Patrick was born on 15 Apr 1823.[1] He married Catherine Delaney on 7 May 1862.[2] They had 12 children. Patrick died on 15 Apr 1894.[3]
Research Notes
Another Patrick Casey was born on 13 Mar 1836.[4] This Patrick died on 25 Jan 1900.[5] with daughter Margaret in attendance. Interestingly, the probate was not settled until 1913.[6] and when it was granted to his son John.
The question, then, is which Patrick Casey was married to Catherine Delaney. On the one hand, the Patrick born in 1823 was 18 years older than Catherine whilst the one born in 1836 was only five years older. That said, there is little to point in one direction or another. The children of Catherine include a Thomas, a John, and a Margaret and we see that the elder Patrick has a son Thomas and the younger Patrick had a son John and daughter Margaret. These, being common names, says little to help us.
One point to consider is whether the probate for the younger Patrick would have been awarded to a son if a wife was still living. If not, then that would argue that the younger Patrick was not the husband of Catherine Delaney.
An area to research, is whether there is a Thomas, Margaret, or John Casey born in Kerry Head to a Patrick Casey and a mother other than Catherine Delaney. This leads to potential potential conclusions, such as:
If there is no other Thomas Casey son of Patrick, then the elder Patrick must be the husband of Catherine.
If there is no other John Casey son of Patrick or Margaret Casey daughter of Patrick, then the younger Patrick must be the husband of Catherine.
