Samuel Casey (1896-1961) was born on the 21st November 1896
[1]
in Toxteth Park, Liverpool
[2]
He was the son of Samuel James Casey & Alice Lancelot[2]
and he was christened on the 31st January 1897 at St Peter's, Liverpool
[1]
He passed away on the 5th November 1961 at his home on Acanthus Road, Old Swan in Liverpool.
[3][4]
Samuel Casey was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
Samuel Casey (1895-1961) was born in Toxteth Park, Liverpool on the 21st November 1896
[1][5]
possibly at the family home on Ouse Street. He was the son of Samuel James Casey and Alice Lancelot[6]
and he was christened at St Peter's church in Liverpool on the 31st January 1897.
[1]
By 1901 the family had moved onto Haliburton Street, Toxteth Park
[7]
and following his mother's death in 1902 the family was split between several extended family members' households. Samuel, his sister Ethel and his father went to live with his aunt Elizabeth Hagan on Beaufort Street initially moving with them onto New Henderson Street before the 1911 census.
[8]
They didn't live there long and they moved back to Beaufort Street within a couple of years.
When he left school he became a boot salesman and when he married in 1919 he gave the Beaufort Street address.
[9]
He married Mary Elizabeth Langley at St Thomas' church in Toxteth Park on the 27th December 1919.
[10][11]
They started their family and moved to Lamport Street before the 1921 census by which time they had 2 young sons.
[12]
They would have 7 children in total. Around 1923 they moved out of Toxteth Park to Queen's Drive in the Stoneycroft area where they lived for about 5 years,
[13]
then a few years on Ashcombe Road in Knotty Ash
[14]
before settling on Acanthus Road in Old Swan in 1931. Samuel would spend the next 30 years there.
[15]
He was still a boot salesman in 1938
[16]
but 1939 saw a change of occupation and he became a postman.
[17]
The 1939 register saw Samuel and Mary with 3 of the children at home, possibly some of the younger ones had been evacuated.
[5][18][19]
Mary died in 1957 leaving Samuel widowed.
[20]
and was buried in West Derby Cemetery on the 9th November 1961.
