James was born on 28 January 1903 in Elder Tree Cottage, in the district of Blackrock, Dublin County, Ireland. He is the son of Patrick Casey, gardener, and Margaret Lalor.[1]
James Casey and Teresa McGowan of Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, daughter of James McGowan, teacher, were married on Easter Monday, 22 April 1935, in the Roman Catholic church of St. John's, in Kilkenny. They were both living in Kilkenny at the time. Witnesses at the wedding were Seámus Casey and Bridie McKenna.[2][3]
James and Teresa (Tessie) had one daughter, Geraldine Bernadette, who was born on 18 Feb 1943 in Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. Sadly, Geraldine passed away just ten days later in the hospital. She had spina bifida at birth, and could not survive.[4][5]
