Simeon W. Casey was born in about 1832 in Jefferson County, Illinois.[1]
Simeon spent his early years living on his family's farm in Jefferson County, Illinois. Sometime between 1840 and 1850, the Casey family moved with his family to Oregon County, Missouri, where he can be found with his parents and siblings in the 1850 census.[2]
In about 1860, Simeon Casey married Tamer Jane Nicholson. The couple can be found living together in Birch Prairie Township, Shannon County, Missouri in the 1860 census.[3]
In early 1861, Simeon and Tamer Jane welcomed their first child, a boy named James B. Casey.
Following the outbreak of hostilities in the Civil War in April 1861, Missouri, and particularly southern Missouri, where Simeon and most of his family lived, became a very dangerous place for Union sympathizers. During this time, several Caseys and DePriests are known to have returned to Jefferson County in Illinois, both for their family's safety, and to enlist in the Union army. Simeon was among them, enlisting in the Union Army on 13 Feb 1862 in Jefferson County, Illinois, where he was assigned to Co. F, 60th Regiment, Illinois Infantry.[4]
Simeon and Tamer Jane's second child, named Simeon after his father, was born in Illinois on 25 Jun 1862.[5]
Little is known of Simeon's Civil War service record, other than that he mustered out in November of 1865, not long after the birth of his and Tamer's third and last child together, Effie (born 14 Oct 1865).
After Simeon mustered out, he and his family re-settled in Richwoods, Missouri, which at that time was part of Miller County.[6] Prolonged separation during the Civil War must have taken a toll on Simeon and Tamer's relationship, as they divorced sometime before 1870.
In 1870, we find Simeon living with young sons James and SImeon in their homeplace in Richwoods, along with his mother, Mary and newlyweds (younger brother) James Bowlin Casey and Polly (Burks) Casey.

Finding marriage dates for Simeon Casey has proven challenging. More work needs to go into documenting this. I hope to visit Shannon County, Missouri this summer and look at their old marriage books to see if any record can be found of his marriage to Tamer Jane Nicholson.
