(1918). Mrs Kenric Broadribb received news by the mail that her niece, Miss Gwen Peyton- Jones, second daughter of Mrs. Peyton-Jones, has been decorated in France with the Croix de Guerre for good work done under shellfire during the retreat in April. Miss Gwen Peyton-Jones is a niece of Mr. Richard Casey, whose two sons have received Military Crosses. (1919). Mrs. Kenric Brodribb has received some further and very interesting particulars, concerning the honours recently awarded her niece, Miss Gwen Peyton-Jones, second daughter of her only sister, Mrs. Peyton-Jones, who lived in Melbourne until the last few years. Miss Peyton-Jones, who is a sergeant in the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, won her Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a motor ambulance car driver during military operations. In an emergency she was sent to help to evacuate the hospitals in danger of falling into enemy hands. She cleared a number of British and French wounded, and for three days after continued to assist in evacuating British and French from various dressing stations under heavy shell-fire. During the time she was not actually driving her car she worked continuously, without rest, and was of the utmost assistance to the British Field Ambulance, working in hospitals, and obtaining particulars of the wants or the British wounded. Earlier in the war she was awarded the Croix de Guerre, and was decorated with the same by General Gouraud. The Australasian (Melbourne, Vic. : 1864 - 1946) Saturday 1 February 1919, Page 35: http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/140218099/11767359

(1948). SOLDIERS' FRIEND ON VISIT. MISS G. PEYTON-JONES, who befriended many Tasmanian soldiers, nurses, and nursing aids in Jerusalem during the Second World War, arrived in Launceston yesterday. Although she spent her girlhood in Melbourne, Miss Peyton-Jones has family links with Tasmania. Her paternal grandfather, Mr John Peyton-Jones, was Police Magistrate in the Westbury district, and her father was No. 133 on the roll of the Hutchins School, Hobart. Her maternal grandfather was Dr Cornelius Casey, colonial surgeon for Van Diemen's Land in Sir John Franklin's regime. Miss Peyton-Jones, who went to England in 1908, served in France in the First World War with the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. In 1929 she went to Palestine and was matron of an ophthalmic hospital conducted by the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. It had to be evacuated because of the fight between the Jews and Arabs. Miss Peyton-Jones returned to her home on the island of Guernsey. It had been occupied by the Germans during the war, and had been looted and badly damaged. Miss Peyton-Jones will stay for a time with Mr C. A. Harrison, Longford, who met her when serving in the Middle East, and is a distant relative. Later, Miss-Peyton-Jones will visit friends in Hobart.
