Vital Statistics
John Cash was born on 5 April 1757 in Amherst County, Virginia and died on 13 August 1836 in Henry County, Georgia. He married Lucy Campbell in Amherst County on 23 Jan 1872 in the house of Charles Rore [Rone?] by a traveling minister. The couple moved to Bedford County, Virginia around 1790, then to Elbert County, Georgia around 1802. Finally, they moved to Henry County, Georgia in 1829.[1]
Family
In his will, John Cash lists his wife, Lucy, and the following children: James, Stephen, Moses, Lucy (married name White), Mary, Jane and Polly (Maybe a nickname for Nancy?).[2] In his military pension application, John's brothers are given as William and Peter Cash. John's children, James, Nancy and Mary place a claim on his pension after their parents' deaths; also mentioned are Stephen and Jane.
Enslaved Persons
In his will, John leaves an enslaved woman named Jane and "her increase" to his daughters, Mary Jane and Polly.
Military
According to his Revolutionary War Pension Application, John enlisted with the Virginia Militia in September of 1776. He served a total of 8 months in a series of tours. He joined up as part of the Cherokee Expedition in 1776 and was home before Christmas of that year. During that tour, he was involved in a skirmish at Fort Chissell. Another tour involved guarding prisoners and herding livestock at the Albemarle Barracks. He was also involved in the Battle of Green Springs Plantation near Jamestown in July of 1781. He received a final discharge on 14 August 1781.
