Biography

According to the Visitations of Hertfordshire (1634). Edward Cason was the son of Edmond Cason of Hertford and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Bowle of Hertfordshire. The pedigree appears as "Cason of Aston Bury". [1]
He was born around 1563, given his age at death of 61 years on 9 September 1624. [2]

Edward entered Trinity College, Cambridge in 1580, [2], and pursued a career in the Law, being admitted to the Middle Temple London on 2 July 1582. He was called to the Bar on 14 May 1591, became a Bencher in 1610, a reader in the autumn of that year and Treasurer of the Middle Temple in 1618. [3]

Edward (described as "of Hertf., and of the Middle Temple) married Jane Boteler, daughter of Sir Henry Boteler of Hatfield Woodhall, Hertfordshire. They had one surviving son, Henry (later Sir Henry) Cason of Astonbury, Hertfordshire and Payton hall, Suffolk (still living in 1634). [1] The marriage took place at the parish church of Bramfield, Hertfordshire on 30 January 1591 (1592 New Style). [4] [5]

Jane died in September 1603, and Edward married Susan Oxenbridge, daughter of Sir Robert Oxenbridge of Hurstbourne Priors, com. Southampton [Hampshire] in 1604. [1]

Edward and Susan had two surviving children: [1]

  • Edward Cason of "Furnis Pelham", Hertfordshire
  • John Cason

Edward died in 1624 and was buried in the parish church of Furneux Pelham.

After Edward's death, Susan married Sir Thomas Cecil. [1] This happened sometime before 1651, when Susan and Sir Thomas conveyed the property at Furneux Pelham to her eldest son Edward upon his second marriage.
