However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.

Hmmm .... Are you sure Cason wasn't mistranscribed from Eason, a very common and large family of early southern VA and Isle of wight. the 'C' is very close to the capital 'E'. This should be noted.
Cason-52 and Cason-51 appear to represent the same person because: The two-year difference could be because the dates are so approximate and the sources are rather soft. Of course, one could have died as a child, but there are a lot of duplicate brother and sister names.
