Biography

Anna Margaret Cassady was born on 4 Dec 1916 in Coshocton, Ohio, United States. She was the daughter of Harry Cassady and Lorna Brooke. Anna passed away on 13 Jun 2013 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, United States.

Anna Margaret (Call) Ruland, age 96, formerly of Coshocton, Ohio, passed through transition on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Willow Brook Christian Home in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on December 4, 1916, in Coshocton, and was the eldest of three daughters of the late Burton and Lorna (Brooke) Call. [NOTE: Anna's biological father was Harry Cassady. After her parents divorced, her mother remarried Burton Call, who adopted Anna and her sister Kathleen, and changed their last names.] After graduating from Coshocton High School in 1934, she received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Ohio University, and her teaching certification from Muskingum College. She married Robert F. Ruland on August 24, 1938; he preceded her in death in 1980. For 25 years she taught 8th Grade Language Arts and Ohio History at Coshocton Middle School, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Coshocton, and Epworth United Methodist Church and Karl Road Christian Church, both in Columbus. She belonged to many organizations over the years and was a source of inspiration to many. Anna is survived by son, Walter (Lynda) Ruland of Shawnee, KS; daughters, Kathleen Jared and Susan (Joseph) Jennings of Columbus; five grandchildren, Robert Jared, Benjamin (Amy) Jared, Kathleen (Michael) Kelma, James (Laurel) Ruland, and Craig Worthington; eight great-grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephew; and many other cherished family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Anna is preceded in death by two sisters Kathleen Kitchen and Elberta Wooley, and one grandchild, Michael Worthington. A memorial service will be held at Karl Road Christian Church, 5400 Karl Road, Columbus, OH 43229, Friday, September 20, 2013, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Margaret Connor officiating. Following the memorial, graveside services for immediate family only will take place in South Lawn Cemetery in Coshocton, Ohio. GIVEN-DAWSON FUNERAL HOME of Coshocton is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at www.mda.org; Karl Road Christian Church, 5400 Karl Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229; or Coshocton County Dollars for Scholars, 220 S. Fourth St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812.
