DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:
Cassel-306 and Cassell-194 appear to represent the same person because: Cassell and Cassel are frequently spelled two different ways. This particular individual is clearly the former as evidenced by his grave marker.
The Native American project is currently cleaning up those profiles that had erroneously been edited to include a "Family of Powhatan" template. This template was added to MANY profiles a few years back based on erroneous data. The descendants of Jacob Castle and his possibly Native American wife were not connected to Powhatan and the category will be removed unless there is documentation proving a connection.
Kathy, I am a direct descendant of Jacob’s sister Christiana. None of my family have any Native American traces in our DNA. It’s time to retire this Peter Cassell mythology. Even my great grandmother said it was hogwash long before Watson and Crick discovered DNA.
