Biography

Johan Wilhelm Casselman was born about 1711 in New York. He passed away in 1760 in New York.

Research Notes

  • Several other records show him married to an Anna Margaretha Empey (1730- ), and Anna Margaretha Saltzman/Saltsman. Further research is needed. -[Fetterly-28].

These statements were cut-and-pasted from the profile of Johannes' nephew of the same name, as there was previously confusion between the 2 men:

  • MARRIAGE: About 1738 William married Anna Margretha Salzman - no marriage record found, but proof is in the 1739 baptism record of their first born child [below] listing parents & BOTH GRANDMOTHERS - Casselmann and Salzmann. (Nephew.)
  • Also consistent with the 1744 Lutheran congregation of Stone Arabia recorded by Rev. Peter N. Sommer. (Dillenbeck, Rev. Andrew L. (1931). Lutheran Trinity Church of Stone Arabia, NY. p. 22.); (Nephew.)

[a] Anna Margreta, child of Wilhelm & Anna Margreta Casselmann, born June 10, bap. June 19, 1739 at Steenrapy, child's grandmothers Greta Liesse Casselmannin & Anna Margareta Salzmannin are substituting for absent sponsors Jurge Salzman, Jr. & Anna Maria Casselmannin. (Original record in German at Zion Lutheran Church, Loonenburg, Greene Co., NY by Re v. Berkenmeyer.)
[b] Anna Magdalena, child of Johan Wilhelm & Margretha Casselman n, b. 20 Jan 1744 at Stein Raby, bap. 22 Jan 1744. Sponsors: Miss Anna Magdalena ___, Miss Anna Elisabeth Walrath, and Johannes Casselmann. (Recorded at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Schoharie, NY by Rev. Sommer.)
?? A record found at Reformed Church in Stone Arabia made by an unknown person: Lisabett, child of Willem (J.) Casellman & Margreta Salsman, b .___1741. Sponsors: Henrich Salsman, and Lisabet Dillebach. Note: Impossible to know but - Willem " (J.)" could indicate Jr. - i.e. younger Willem. "Lisabett" could be an error or same child as Anna Maria of 1744 list.--This record is from the first reference below, under "Sources". Fetterly-28 06:12, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Johann by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Johann:

Ok, it looks like I got merged off my ancestor.

Casselman-252 and Casselman-101 do not represent the same person because: Needs investigation, setting as unmerged match is more appropriate.

They were uncle and nephew and it looks like it's been cleared up.
