The 1898 census gives his Hocąk name as Ho-kha-dap-ho-ra-jay-kaw which is for Hox’ą́t’ą́p Horajéga, "Traveler Jumping Over Waterfalls," from hox’ą́, "waterfall"; t’ą́p, "to jump"; horajé, "to travel, roam, visit"; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. Horajegega, "Traveler", is the name of a famous Waterspirit about whom are told many stories. Arthur's name, which makes reference to this great Spirit ought therefore to be a name in the Waterspirit Clan.
