Biography

William Casson was born in 1813 in Ffestiniog, Merionethshire, Wales

Wm Cason was baptised on 24 Sep 1813 in Ffestiniog.[1]

William Casson married Frances Galley Day Jackson, daughter of John Galley Day Jackson, on 9 Mar 1841 - a marriage notice was published in the Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser on 13 Mar 1841.[2] The marriage was registered in West Derby, Lancashire in the first quarter of the year.[3]

William and Frances had six children:

  1. William Galley Casson (late 1841/early 1842-1889)
  2. Thomas Casson (Oct 1842-1910)
  3. Frances Mary (Casson) Ranken (1844-1913)
  4. Anne (Casson) Griffith (1847-1883)
  5. Esther Casson (1848-1876)
  6. Randal Casson (1850-1914)

In 1841 William Casson (age 28) lived at Lodge Lane Pb in Toxteth Park, Lancashire with his wife Franess (20), brother-in-law George Casson (30), and three others [probably servants]: Joseph ? (20), Hannah ? (43), and Anna H??? (24).[4]

In 1851 William Casson (age 37, Magistrate Landowner Turpcaline) lived at Lodge Lane in Toxteth Park Extra Parochial with his wife F G D (30) and six children: William (9), Thomas (8), Frances (7), Anne (4), Esther (2), and Randel (1), as well as his brother George Casson (48), governess Maria Swan (24), nurse Ann Murthy (44), and two servants: Margaret Madeline (25) and Ellen Werk (26).[5]

In 1861 William Casson (age 47, Magistrate / Tar Distiller) lived at 2 Belvidere Road in Toxteth Park with five of his children: Thomas (18, Student), Frances Mary (17, Student), Ann (14, Scholar), Esther (12, Scholar), and Randall (11, Scholar), visitor Amelia Turner (19), and three servants: Jane Kelly (24), Eleanor F Lewis (34), and Sarah Ellis (22).[6]

In 1871 William Casson (age 57, Landowner) lived in Betchton, Cheshire with his wife Frances Galley Day (50, Landowner), daughter Ann (24), and two servants: Kitty Baker (34, Cook) and Mary Ann Clowes (18, Servant).[7]

William Casson passed away on 3 Feb 1877, aged 64 years. His death was registered in Dolgelley, Merionethshire in the first quarter of the year.[8]

"1 August. The Will of William Casson formerly of Plasyn-Penrhyn in the County of Merioneth but late of Betchton House in the Township of Betchton in the County of Chester Esquire who died 3 February 1877 at Dolgelley in the County of Merioneth was proved at the Principal Registry by William Galley Casson of Pwllheli in the County of Carnarvon and Thomas Casson of Denbigh in the County of Denbigh Bank Managers the Sons the Executors. Effects under £5,000."[9]
