Thomas was placed in a Methodist Children's Home in Shreveport as a young child and was later taken in by his foster parents Vera Neal Boisseau and Ray Boisseau.
When he was placed in the foster home, everyone thought his name was James Thomas; it wasn't until he graduated from high school that he learned it was Thomas James. All the Shreveport relatives still call him James.
Place: Vera and Ray Boisseau, LA
