Death by Railway Accident

Isaac Castle was killed accidentally at Darling Harbour Goods Yard,

A FATAL accident happened on Wednesday to a labourer named Isaac Castle. He was working at Darling Harbour, and was run over by a truck which was being shunted on the railway line. He was immediately picked up and removed to the Sydney Hospital, where he was admitted in a hopeless condition. An examination proved that he had sustained fractures of the pelvis and left leg, from which injuries he died at about 6 o'clock in the evening. The deceased reslded with his wife and family at 217 Church street, Camperdown. ^[1]

The City Coroner found: "We find that the said Isaac Castle at the Sydney Hospital in the Colony aforesaid, died from the effects of injuries accidentally received on the same day, through being knocked down and run over by a railway truck which was being shunted at the time." A gratuity of £250 was paid to his widow and children by the Government of the Colony.
