Lewis C. Castleman was born in 1774 in Hampshire County, West Virginia, the child of Johannes Ludwig (Lewis) and Jemima. He married Ann Dudley on June 7, 1815, in Fayette, Kentucky. They had four children in 52 years. He died on October 21, 1847, in Washington County, Missouri, at the age of 73.
