Åland Islands Region an archipelago region at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea.
Åland Islands Region differs from other Finnish regions by being an autonomous, demilitarised territory under Finnish sovereignty and it is the only monolingually Swedish-speaking region in Finland. Swedish culture and language are protected by international and they also have their own flag.
There are 16 parishes in the Åland Islands region; Brändö, Eckerö, Finström, Föglö, Geta, Hammarland, Jomala, Kumlinge, Kökar, Lemland, Lumparland, Mariehamn/Maarianhamina, Saltvik, Sottunga, Sund and Vårdö.
