Category: 1960s Civil Rights Movement

Categories: US History | African-American History

Although the Civil War officially abolished slavery in the United States, it did not end discrimination against People of Color, nor the devastation of racism, especially in the South. By the mid-20th century, African-Americans had had more than enough of violence and prejudice against them due to racism. They, along with many whites, mobilized and began an unprecedented fight for equality that began in the 1950s and lasted through the 1960s, becoming known as the Civil Rights Movement.

This category is an attempt to identify those who were active in the movement and have come to be identified with it's cause.
