Steam Ship : 12234 Tons

This SS Athenic was a steam-powered ocean liner built in 1901 by Harland and Wolff in Belfast for the White Star Line. Her sister ships were SS Corinthic and SS Ionic. When WWI was declared Athenic was in Wellington, New Zealand, and was requisitioned as a troopship under the British Liner Requisition Scheme. She remined an NZ Expeditionary Force troopship through to 1919 when she brought the men home to New Zealand.
