The widow of Major General George Vasey (1895-1945), Mrs Jessie Mary Vasey CBE was the driving force behind support for war widows and recognition of their plight. The War Widows Guild Australia was formed on 22nd November 1945, just weeks after the end of the Second World War, with Jessie being elected foundation president. When she passed away in 1966, Jessie was returning home from visiting other war widows. Other organisations (such as Legacy Australia) have also come into being since with the similar purpose of assisting war widows. All are welcome.
This Category exists to recognise those whose lives, arguably, have been turned upside-down the most by war.
