Bandera County is northwest of San Antonio in the Edwards Plateau region of southwest Texas. Formed in 1856 from Bexar and Uvalde counties, the county and its seat are named for Bandera Pass, which in turn uses the Spanish word for flag. Its county seat is Bandera. Bandera County is part of the San Antonio-New Braunfels, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
