Bristol is a city, unitary authority area and county in South West England. It has been a county in its own right since 1373, up until 1974 when it became part of Avon, but this only lasted until 1996 when it became the county of Bristol again. Historically that part of the city north of the river Avon was in Gloucestershire and that part south of it was in Somerset. However, Births, Marriages and Deaths are listed as "County of Bristol" or "County Borough of Bristol".

Where two parallel subcategories exist e.g. [Clifton:Bristol] and [Clifton:Gloucestershire], these refer to the same place, but have been created separately by WikiTree members and may contain different profiles.

References to specific Bristol churches appear within that subcategory.
