There are three levels of ordination within the Catholic ministry: bishop, priest and deacon. There are two types of deacons: transitional deacons usually within their last year of seminary who intend to seek ordination as priests and permanent deacons who do not intend to seek ordination as a priest. Deacons may preach, perform baptisms, witness marriages and assist with the Eucharist or the Mass but are not ministers of the Eucharist. Priests may perform all functions except confirmation and ordination of bishops, priests and deacons. Priests with special permission may administer confirmation. Bishops may ordain deacons, priests and bishops. Bishops who lead a metropolitan archdiocese are called Archbishops. Wikipedia: Holy orders in the Catholic Church
This category should be attached to profiles of persons who were Catholic Archbishops in addition to categories which identify them as priests by diocese or area. Because the total number of Catholic Archbishops is relatively small, there need not be subcategories under this category.
This category reflects historical events. Archbishops in England prior to the Act of Supremacy in 1534 were Catholic Archbishops. Archbishops in Scotland prior to the Act of the Scottish Parliament in 1560 were Catholic Archbishops .
