Traditionally, the role of laity in the administration and leadership of the Catholic Church has been a limited one. Particularly, in the 20th century, however, the role of laity began to grow, perhaps in response to the decline in the priesthood which limited the number of priests available for some roles, and the need for a single priest to often serve multiple congregations.
This category may be placed on profiles of Catholic laypersons who have served in significant positions of leadership or administration in the Catholic Church or who have served in some advisory capacity to Catholic bishops, archbishops, cardinals, or the Pope.
