Chaplains, from the Latin capella, are today appointed not only to standing armies and navies, but also to hospitals, prisons, cemeteries, sports teams, legislative bodies, universities and schools. Can a chaplain's role be expressed in a brief sentence? People, ordained clergy or other, who care spiritually and practically for others caught in the most emotional and difficult states of life, usually without usually without thought for themselves.
