The church was originally part of the Franciscan ("Greyfriars") Monastery.
Given to the Corporation of the City of London after the Dissolution.
Church renamed Christ Church and became the parish church for the united parishes of St Nicholas and St Ewin, and part of St Sepulchre.
Destroyed in the Great Fire, rebuilt by the office of Sir Christopher Wren.
After 1666, the parish was united with that of St Leonard, Foster Lane, which was not rebuilt.
Destroyed in the London Blitz 1940. Ruins are now a City garden.
