The Church of Ireland (Irish: Eaglais na h√Čireann; Ulster-Scots: Kirk o Airlann) is an autonomous member church of the Anglican Communion. Except for the brief period of restoration of Catholicism under the reign of Mary I (1553-1558), the Church of Ireland was the state church from its formation in 1536 until the Irish Church Act 1869 disestablished it on 1 January 1871.
