Because of the shifting boundaries of the Kingdom of Bohemia (Königreich Böhmen) also known as The Czech Lands, over the last several 100's of years, records for a person will list different names for the same geographical location, depending on the year in which the data was recorded. These names can be written in Latin, Czech, or German.

When researching on any original records, consider these name changes over time. Some of the transcribed or interpreted data uses modern names instead of the event-contemporaneous names. Does the profile follows the Wikitree guidance for location names?

As a rough guide:

  • >1918: Czechoslovakia or Czech Republic
  • <1918: Kingdom of Bohemia, Austria
  • <1804: Kingdom of Bohemia, Holy Roman Empire
