Dalarna county is a "modern" county, established January 1, 1997. Prior to that date, it was named Kopparberg county.
Dalarna county is located in the region Svealand and is geographically almost identical with Dalarna province. Both the county and the province use the same coat of arms.
The county code for Dalarna is the letter W (which also was the county code for Kopparberg county) and there is about 64 parishes in the county.
